Another Road Trip Awaits Atlanta United

Atlanta United is back on the road to face off against CF Montreal this Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Coming into the match, Atlanta currently sits in 10th place in the Eastern Conference standings and Montreal sits in 11th.

CF Montreal is coming off of a 1-1 draw against Vancouver Whitecaps at home. Atlanta United is coming into this match-up after being knocked out of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup when Indy Eleven beat Atlanta 2-1.

The Five Stripes have an overall record of 7-3-3 against Montreal with a 2-3-2 record on the road. In their last meeting at Stade Saputo, Atlanta won 1-0 on July 8, 2023. They completed the double against Montreal on September 23, 2023, winning 4-1 at Mercedes Benz Stadium.

Atlanta played against CF Montreal in the preseason before the 2024 regular season. The Five Stripes went on to win 2-1 in that preseason match. Interim head coach Rob Valentino spoke to the media on Thursday about how seeing Montreal in preseason could help Atlanta heading into this matchup.

“They were doing everything they could to play out of the back, play out from a goal kick and I credit the coach and the rest of the players. They were really trying to execute and that's what preseason is for to make the mistakes and those things that would happen,” said Valentino. “They look like they are more refined at it, so they are better in a lot of ways. It will be a tough challenge for us. They’re a good team. I think the coach is a great coach, and has done a good job with the players that he’s got. There are other familiar faces on the other side that we will be looking to see, but it will be a tough challenge for us.”
