Atlanta United announced today that they have re-signed Jamal Thiaré for the 2025 season with an option for 2026.
2024 was the Senegalese forward’s first full season with the Five Stripes and he did not disappoint. He started 18 of his 30 appearances and scored eight goals across all competitions.
His first goal was in Atlanta’s 3-0 win against Chicago on March 31 where he also earned a brace. He started in all five matches during Atlanta’s 2024 MLS Cup Playoff run and scored a brace in the club’s 3-2 win to knock out Inter Miami in Game 3 of Round one of the playoffs.
We also cannot forget about his sneaky game-winner against Toronto back in June!
Before Thiaré came to Atlanta, he spent five seasons with Le Havre AC between France’s Ligue 1 and 2 where he had 31 goals and 18 assists in 129 appearances across all competitions.
SDH'S Social Corner: Jason's thoughts on the re-signing:
Once Thiaré was included on the protected list for the Expansion Draft, it was a foregone conclusion that he would be back in Atlanta for 2025 (or would be traded for other assets). His production was solid in what was supposed to be a reserve role in 2024, nearly averaging half a goal per 90 minutes played. He also changed the team defensively when he was on the field, his pressing was very disruptive to the opposition and created opportunities for the team to create turnovers. With the expectation that a starting #9 will be signed as a Designated Player, Thiaré would be going back to a primarily reserve role where his injury issues might not be as much of a problem for the squad.
Looking forward to seeing Jamal back with the Five Stripes for another season!
