Goals and Drama on the Atlanta United Equinox

by Madison Crews

May 18 was an Atlanta United Equinox. Almost every club for Atlanta United played today. 4 of those games were broadcasted. Here is everything you might have missed from all 4 matches!

Atlanta United Academy U17s vs Orlando City SC U17s

Atlanta United Academy U17s started off the unbeaten streak for the five stripes when they beat Orlando City 2-1 at Children's HealthCare of Atlanta Training Ground at 9 a.m.

Orlando started off the scoring in the 10th minute when they earned a penalty, and Theo Franca converted to make it 1-0. That was the scoreline for most of the match.

At the 85th minute, Cooper Sanchez found Mason Peacock at the edge of the 6 where he headed it past Maxim to make it 1-1.

Atlanta would take the lead in the 89th minute when Enamorado entered the 18 from the right, looking for Peacock, but Orlando’s defender Jackson Platts came in between the pass and put it into his own net to make it 2-1.

Now, we move from Marietta, Georgia to Nashville, Tennessee for the first team match.

Atlanta United vs Nashville SC

At 1:30 pm ET, Atlanta United earned a 1-1 draw against Nashville SC to kick off Saturday's action in MLS for Rivalry Week. Nashville SC started off the scoring in the 40th minute when Hany Mukhtar was fouled by Brad Guzan and the referee called a penalty. Mukhtar stepped up and converted to make it 1-0 going into halftime.

The Five Stripes found an equalizer in the 56th minute when Bartosz Slisz fired a rocket from 19 yards out to find the back of the net. This was Slisz first goal with the Five Stripes.

“I think today the performance, in terms of energy, commitment, fighting, grinding was really good. I was really pleased with the fight that this team has. We are missing some players with some quality, especially up front, but I think because of the circumstances it was a good performance and a good result for us too, we called it, stop the bleeding,” said Gonzalo Pineda after the match. “It is a band-aid and hopefully we can keep building some confidence, some connection offensively.”

Atlanta United is back in action on Tuesday where they will travel to Charleston to face off against Charleston Battery in the U.S. Open Cup.

Atlanta United Unified vs Nashville SC Unified

Atlanta United Unified squad earned their first win of the 2024 season where they beat Nashville SC 2-0.

Last season, Atlanta went undefeated last season where they had two away wins vs New York Red Bulls and FC Dallas, and one draw at home vs Charlotte FC. This was the first time in their seven year history that the Unified team went undefeated.

Xavier Hairston is continuing his scoring from last season with the Five Stripes where he earned the brace in the match.

Atlanta United Unified Team will be in action again on August 24 when they go on the road to face off against LA Galaxy.

Atlanta United 2 vs Huntsville City FC

The Atlanta United Equinox came to a close with a 3-2 victory for the 2's on the road against Huntsville City FC. This is the first road win for the 2's this season.

The scoring would start in the 30th minute when Karim Tmimi passed it back to Javier Armas who was outside the 18 and blasted it past Ben Martino in net to make it 1-0. This was Armas’ fourth goal of the season for the 2's.

In the 53rd minute, Miles Hadley would make it 2-0 when Armas floated the ball into the box from a corner and Hadley was able to slide in a right-footed shot to earn his first professional goal with Atlanta United.

Huntsville FC would make it a one goal game in the 67th minute when Forster Ajago was able to slide the ball past Hibbert to make it 2-1.

Karim Tmimi joined the score sheet in the 88th minute for what ended up as the game winning goal. Armas sent another ball in from the corner to find Tmimi in the box for Atlanta.

Ajago was able to pull it back one again to a one goal game in the 90th minute but Huntsville wouldn’t be able to find an equalizer in time.

Jayden Hibbert had many phenomenal saves for the 2s, Miles Hadley scored his first professional career goal, and the 2s earned the road win. A great way to finish out the Equinox!
