LBU continues, Dominik Chong Qui turns pro with Atlanta United

In a move that became inevitable during the last Atlanta United 2 season, Dominik Chong Qui has signed his first professional contract with the club. He will play for Atlanta United 2 as a pro in MLS NEXT Pro in 2025 before joining the MLS roster for the 2026 season as a Homegrown on a three-year contract with an option for 2029.

Chong Qui broke into the 2's lineup in the summer of 2024 and never relinquished his grip on the left back spot for Steve Cooke's side. He started 12 of 17 games and played over 1,000 minutes. He scored twice during the season.

“Dominik is a very talented player who has progressed through our development pathway at an excellent rate,” said Director of Methodology Javier Perez. “Dominik showcased his skills on both ends of the pitch this past year with Atlanta United 2 and we look forward to his continued development and success with the club during his first full season as a professional next year."

Joining the Atlanta United academy in 2022, Chong Qui won the U16 MLS NEXT Cup in 2023 and has participated in U.S. youth national team camps, most recently with the U17's in September 2023.

MY TAKE: From George Bello to Caleb Wiley and now to Dominik Chong Qui, Atlanta United's academy and the clubs locally that feed into it keep producing professional-caliber left backs. What kept sticking with me last year during the 2's season was Steve Cooke saying that Chong Qui elevated his play once he joined the group, playing at a higher level than he was with the academy. It's not easy to do and it's a credit to his mentality and character. He became a regular almost instantly on his debut, and his play this fall with the U18's has indicated that he's thriving on the growth. His defensive abilities improving has jumped out to me in the matches we've called in the last month. Exciting to see what's coming next for DCQ.
